Pondicherry is the capital city and the largest city of the Indian union territory of Puducherry. It is an idyllic town located on the coastline of Southern India, located 150 km south of Chennai. Once a French colonial settlement, it is now a picturesque amalgam of French and Indian culture, harmonising with tranquil beaches, exotic cuisine and a spiritual aura. On one side you will see the hustle and rigour of the city, while the other boasts of Rues and Boulevards lined with pastel hued villas.
It is also abode to the spiritually inclined as it has the samadhis of Shri Aurobindo and the Mother at the Aurobindo Ashram.
It is also known as the French Riviera of the East (La Côte d'Azur de l'Est).
Pondicherry is very much a city with a dual personality: crossing from East to West of the central canal reveals two cities with very different characters.
This delightful fusion is what makes Pondicherry one of a kind.
